KB5083635

Microsoft has released cumulative update KB5083635 for Windows 11 version 25H2 for Insiders on the Beta Channel – Windows 11 Insider Preview Quality Update (26220.8165).

Installation via Windows Update: go to Settings > Windows Update and click Check for updates. A computer restart is required to complete installation.

No known issues are currently listed for this update. However, Beta Channel participants should note that many features are rolled out using Control Feature Rollout technology (initially available to a limited number of Insiders), and features and capabilities may change during testing, be removed, or never reach the final release. Some features under active development may be temporarily unavailable or not fully localized in all languages.

The Windows Insider Program Beta Channel is intended for testing features and improvements that are closer to the final release and are based on Windows 11 version 25H2. Updates for Beta Channel participants are distributed based on Windows 11 version 25H2 via an enablement package (builds 26220.xxxx). Beta Channel participants who want to receive features that are gradually rolled out first can turn on the toggle Get the latest updates as soon as they are available in Settings > Windows Update.

If the toggle is off, features will arrive on your device gradually when they are ready. For complete information about which builds are available in different Windows Insider Program channels, use the Flight Hub app.

How the new features work:

Increased maximum FAT32 volume size: When formatting via the command line (format), the 32 GB software limit has been removed. Volumes up to 2 TB are now allowed by using 32-bit clusters and proper MBR partition handling, as FAT32 natively supports up to 2 TB.

Improved storage view performance: Optimized calls to WMI queries and the GetVolumeInformation API when opening the Disks & volumes page. Data is cached asynchronously, preventing UI blocking when polling large volumes (10 TB+), speeding up disk list display.

Changed UAC behavior in the Storage section: Previously, UAC prompted immediately upon entering the Storage section. Now privilege checks occur only when accessing temporary files (requires SE_BACKUP_NAME), allowing the initial page load without UAC.

Fixed inflated network traffic values: Fixed a bug in WinHttp and Network Location Awareness counters that caused packet duplication. Traffic aggregation now uses filtering by unique connection GUIDs, eliminating double‑counting.

Improved interface for Secure Boot in Windows Security: Added polling of the Secure Boot UEFI certificate store, displaying status via color indicators. Validity of db (allowed), dbx (blocked), and PK/KEK keys is checked. Managed through SecConfig.efi.

Updated Feedback Hub with a modern interface: The app has been updated to WinUI 3 instead of UWP/XAML Island. List rendering sped up via a RecyclerView‑like mechanism and direct binding to internal Windows feedback APIs (REST over OData).

Simplified feedback submission in Feedback Hub: Replaced multi‑step forms with a single template featuring category search via client‑side indexing (Lucene.NET). Asynchronous submission, GZip compression before sending to the /feedback/api/v1/log endpoint.

Simplified navigation in Feedback Hub: The old Announcements page removed; news now comes from the Windows Insider Blog RSS/Atom feed. WinUI NavigationView with lazy loading of My feedback and Community feedback via separate ObservableCollection.

New feedback type — Compliment: Added a FeedbackType=Compliment flag in the submission schema. Data goes to a separate endpoint, does not affect bug tracker priority, but collects satisfaction metrics.

Public and private feedback: User sets an isPublic bit when creating feedback. The server verifies Windows Insider account rights. Private feedback is encrypted with the user's key; public feedback is searchable via API with isPublic=true.

New compact mode in Feedback Hub: A minimal Popup‑based interface (title, category, text). Uses the same data schema but skips heavy XAML pages. A CompactMode=true flag is passed in logs.

Improved screenshot handling in Feedback Hub: Built‑in Win2D ImageEditor for highlighting, hiding, and cropping. Annotations stored as a separate PNG+JSON layer, preserving the original image. Editing allowed before submission.
