Microsoft has released cumulative update KB5083825 for Windows 11, version 25H2 for insiders on the Beta channel – Windows 11 Insider Preview Quality Update (26220.8148). This update is intended for participants in the preview program and includes a number of new features, improvements, and fixes.
- Windows Protected Print Mode. A new icon has been added to the print settings indicating printer support for Windows Protected Print Mode.
- Haptic feedback. Added support for haptic feedback on compatible input devices. Effects can be felt during various actions, such as aligning objects in PowerPoint, snapping windows, resizing them, or hovering the cursor over the close button. You can adjust haptic feedback settings in: Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse > Haptic signals.
- Xbox mode. The full-screen Xbox mode is now called Xbox mode. The first-run experience when entering Xbox mode for the first time has also been updated.
- Startup performance. Improved startup performance of startup apps after logging into the system (Settings > Apps > Startup).
Known issues: Fixed an issue where some applications could not log in, incorrectly reporting a connection problem despite having an internet connection. Also fixed a crash affecting the ability to print for some Windows Insider participants in recent builds.
Installation via Windows Update: go to Settings > Windows Update and click Check for updates. A computer restart is required to complete the installation. To update Windows 11, version 25H2 to build 26220.8148, you can also download update KB5083825 and install it manually using the links above.
How the new features work:
Windows Protected Print Mode: This mode isolates the print driver and page rendering process inside a sandbox with minimal privileges. A compatible printer reports its support via WSD or USB. Windows then uses the built-in IPP Class Driver instead of a third-party driver, sending data as PDF or PWG Raster, eliminating kernel vulnerabilities.
Haptic feedback: Tactile feedback is implemented by controlling piezoelectric or linear resonant actuators via HID over I2C or USB. The input stack intercepts WM_POINTER and WM_SIZE events, calculates vibration intensity and duration. Settings are stored in the registry (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Haptics), and the driver converts them into PWM signals (typically 50–200 Hz).
Xbox mode: When activated, the full-screen Xbox mode switches the GameBar.exe shell to a high-priority process with exclusive DXGI access for frame capture. First run checks GamingServices via Xbox Identity Provider (XblIdp). The system temporarily disables Fullscreen Optimizations and puts the Desktop Window Manager (DWM) into a reduced-latency mode.
Startup performance: Startup improvements are based on asynchronous task processing via Task Scheduler with the DelayStart flag. Windows loads critical system DLLs first, then startup apps from the Startup folder and Run registry keys, distributing them with I/O priority. The interval between app launches is increased, reducing disk contention.
