Microsoft has released an out-of-band cumulative update KB5121767 for Windows 11 version 25H2 (build 26200.8894), aimed at fixing a critical issue with performance degradation, overheating, and rapid battery drain on a limited number of devices with the Intel Innovation Platform Framework driver.
Previously, the installation of the July security update KB5101650 was temporarily paused for some Dell computers, and they can now receive this fix. The update is optional, recommended only for affected devices, and includes all improvements from the July security patch dated July 14, 2026.
- System Performance. Fixed an issue affecting a limited number of devices with the Intel Innovation Platform Framework (Intel IPF) driver, which could cause performance anomalies, increased power consumption, or abnormal system behavior, including overheating and rapid battery drain, after installing recent Windows updates.
- Compatibility with Intel IPF Drivers. The problem occurred only on devices with the Intel Innovation Platform Framework driver installed and led to noticeable performance degradation, overheating, and accelerated battery drain. This update is aimed solely at resolving this issue and is recommended for installation only if your device is among those affected.
The servicing stack update KB5120102 (build 26100.8872) improves the reliability of the Windows update installation process. AI components have been updated to version 1.2605.856.0 and include improvements for Image Search, Content Extraction, Semantic Analysis, and Settings Model.
To install the update, open Settings, go to Windows Update, select Advanced options, then Optional updates, and click Download and install. The package is also available for manual download from the Microsoft Update Catalog. If previous updates have already been installed on the device, only new components contained in this package will be downloaded and applied.
