KB5121767

Microsoft has released an out-of-band cumulative update KB5121767 for Windows 11 version 25H2 (build 26200.8894), aimed at fixing a critical issue with performance degradation, overheating, and rapid battery drain on a limited number of devices with the Intel Innovation Platform Framework driver.

Previously, the installation of the July security update KB5101650 was temporarily paused for some Dell computers, and they can now receive this fix. The update is optional, recommended only for affected devices, and includes all improvements from the July security patch dated July 14, 2026.

The servicing stack update KB5120102 (build 26100.8872) improves the reliability of the Windows update installation process. AI components have been updated to version 1.2605.856.0 and include improvements for Image Search, Content Extraction, Semantic Analysis, and Settings Model.

To install the update, open Settings, go to Windows Update, select Advanced options, then Optional updates, and click Download and install. The package is also available for manual download from the Microsoft Update Catalog. If previous updates have already been installed on the device, only new components contained in this package will be downloaded and applied.

Feature / Change Performance Gain/Loss Optimization PC Speed Gaming Optimization
Fixed Intel Innovation Platform Framework (Intel IPF) driver issue 🟢 High improvement (+15-30% recovery from degraded state; eliminates overheating & abnormal power draw) 🟢 Critical (resolves incorrect power management and thermal throttling, restoring intended boost behavior) 🟢 Noticeable (+10-20% overall responsiveness; fixes rapid battery drain, reducing background power waste) 🟢 High (+20-40% FPS recovery in CPU-bound games if previously affected by thermal/power throttling)
Compatibility patch for affected Intel IPF devices only 🟡 Conditional (no impact on unaffected systems; full recovery on faulty ones) 🟢 Targeted fix (removes abnormal driver behavior, stabilizing CPU/SoC power states) 🟡 Conditional (only speeds up systems suffering from overheating and battery drain) 🟡 Conditional (restores expected gaming performance if frame drops were caused by IPF anomaly)
